Periodontology

About us

The Department of Periodontics of the Coorg Institute of Dental Sciences provides didactic and clinic instruction in Periodontology at the undergraduate and the postgraduate levels. The clinical areas of interest include periodontal examination, diagnosis, treatment planning, case presentation and communication, therapies, and outcome assessments in otherwise healthy as well as medically compromised patients. The department has separate working clinics for postgraduate and undergraduate students. A central sterilization room looks after the overall sterilization and disinfection of instruments. Weekly seminars, journal club presentations and tutorials for students are conducted in the seminar room. Department has the latest audiovisual facilities and free access to the high speed internet. Postgraduates have a separate room for themselves where they have their individual lockers to keep their records and personal belongings

The didactic areas of interest include the normal periodontium at the macro and microscopic level, periodontal pathology including intra-oral lesions associated with periodontal conditions, periodontal microbiology and immunology, pain control and pharmacology applicable to periodontal treatments, cell biology, wound healing including periodontal regeneration, dental implantology, case management, The department treats on an average of over 100 patients daily the treatments range from simple scaling to complicated procedure like Root planing, Curettage, Flap surgery, Regenerative procedures, Mucogingival surgical procedures, Laser surgeries and dental implants, Photodynamic Therapy and Low Level Laser Therapy.

Our Vision
is to undertake comprehensive training in periodontics at the UG & PG level, by incorporating high ethical standard in patient care and clinically significant research programs; by making use of the best available clinically skills, technology and evidence based treatment protocols for patient, all directed in the creation of successful doctors in the field of periodontics.
